On June 1, 2019, the inaugural meeting of the Head and Neck Tumor Professional Committee of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) was convened in Mianyang.

This meeting was attended by Secretary General Zhang Mengfan of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, Director Li Chao of Head and Neck Surgery Center of Sichuan Cancer Hospital, Director Li Zhihui of Thyroid Surgery of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Director Zhu Songsong of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, West China Hospital of Stomotology, Sichuan University, Director Fei Wei of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Li Wen, Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Jiang Zhenhua, Director of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Mianyang Central Hospital, Sheng Jianfeng, Director of Thyroid-Head, Neck and Maxillofacial Surgery, Mianyang Third People's Hospital, and a number of experts in head and neck tumor related fields in Sichuan.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Sun Ronghao, representative of the preparatory group reported on the preparatory work for the establishment of the Head and Neck Tumor Professional Committee.

In the report, it is mentioned that after six months of preparation, with the strong support of the Secretary General of the SCIMEA and the experts, the Head and Neck Tumor Professional Committee has received the membership applications of 197 experts from 41 hospitals in 12 cities and prefectures in the province, including 108 in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, 43 in thyroid and breast surgery, 23 in oral and maxillofacial surgery, as well as some experts in oncology and neurosurgery.

Subsequently, Liu Xilu, Director the Project Division of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, presided over the election of this Professional Committee, during which all the participants voted for the Director, Deputy Director,standing members and other leaders of the Professional Committee.

Secretary General Zhang Mengfan read out the Reply on the Approval of the Establishment of the Head and Neck Tumor Professional Committee under the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, and then issued a certificate to the newly elected Director, who issued a certificate to the newly elected Deputy Director subsequently.

The newly elected Director, Li Chao (professor, chief physician, doctor/postdoctor, and Director of the Head and Neck Surgery Center of Sichuan Cancer Hospital), gave a speech on behalf of the Head and Neck Tumor Professional Committee. Director Li mentioned in his speech that the establishment of the Professional Committee will create an exchange platform for trans-disciplinary prevention and treatment of head and neck cancer, share high-quality medical resources in Sichuan, and carry out clinical research in multiple centers, in an effort to make contributions to the development of specialties related to head and neck cancer in the province.

Finally, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan gave a brief introduction about the situation and work ideas of the Association. She claimed that in the next step, the Association will cooperate with topnotch international publishing houses to found high-end English medical journals; in the meantime, it will cooperate with Wenjiang and Meishan Economic Development Zone to hold international biomedical summit forums and itinerant exhibitions, making use of the form of “meeting + exhibition” to promote academic exchanges, enhance the influence of the cities, promote the transformation of academic results, and help the parties involved to attract investment; In addition, the Association will focus on the packaging and publicity of its member units' images, and leverage popular science lectures, grassroots support, new media communication, roadshow salons and other forms to enhance the members' popularity and influence, and create a unique brand name card for the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association.
