Abstract: Protect dental health and care for children's growth

In late May 2019, under the strong support of the West China Hospital of Stomatology of Sichuan University and the cooperation of Golden Apple Jin Cheng No. 1 Attached Primary School, the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association and the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, West China Hospital of Stomatology, held free oral diagnosis activities entitled "Protecting Dental Health and Caring for Children's Growth, West China Stomatology Hospital's Experts Enter Jin Cheng No. 1 Attached Primary School".

Children's oral problems are often overlooked by parents. "In any case, the deciduous teeth will be changed in a few years, so just let it be", "Just wait. The child's teeth will grow better by themselves", such kind of thoughts are very common among parents, leading to long-term high incidence of teeth malformations like decayed teeth, "back-against-back teeth" (Sichuan dialect, referring to extra teeth grown next to normal teeth) and "lower teeth enveloping upper teeth" among children. To popularize the knowledge of children's oral care, the doctors of the Pediatric Dentistry Department, West China Hospital of Stomatology, brought a variety of colorful and lovely promotional materials to children and their parents.

During the free oral diagnosis activity, the oral experts communicated in detail with the parents about the oral problems of the school's children in the lower grades. By means of vivid teaching aids and models, they demonstrated the causes and treatment of the problems to the children and parents.

The doctors also popularized the knowledge related to children's oral health, gave patient and detailed answers to the questions covering the protective measures against decayed teeth and the necessity of pit and fissure sealing from the perspective of knowledge, as well as the brushing steps and the correct chewing method from the perspective of specific operation.

This free oral diagnosis activity has been warmly welcomed by the students and their parents. One of the parents who participated in the event said that, one of the topics of most concern is the growth and health of children; we look forward to more activities of this kind that are beneficial to the people and the growth of children.
