Internal Training | Magical Anesthesia
scimea

On May 20, 2019, Prof. Zuo Yunxia, Director of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, Chairman of the Asian Pediatric Anesthesia Association, and Deputy Director of the Anesthesiology Department, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, brought a lecture titled "Anesthetists Care about Your Body and Shelter Your Life" for internal training of the Secretariat.

Prof. Zuo first cited several press releases as examples to show that anesthetists not only need to face various emergencies at any time in their lives, but also may encounter various disease outbreaks during surgery, which require them to quickly make accurate diagnoses and treatments under a cramped environment and within a limited time. Therefore, in addition to the expertise in anesthesia as well as first aid knowledge and skills, anesthetists usually need to master the expertise of other disciplines.

Prof. Zuo mentioned that under the harsh environmental conditions of early surgery, pain, bleeding, infection, and shock seriously restricted the development of surgery, but the discovery of the anesthetic effect of laughing gas in the 19th century propelled the rapid development of surgery. "Surgery treats diseases, anesthesia saves life", said Prof. Zuo. She indicated that, anesthesiology is a science about how to eliminate or reduce patients' surgical pain and ensure perioperative safety; and the basic duty of anesthesiologists is to ensure the functional support of patients' basic life during surgery, and minimize the harm caused by surgical trauma.

Next, Prof. Zuo expounded the strong strength of the anesthesia clinical team of West China Hospital, using the anesthesia cases of critical patients in various departments. Under the leadership of Prof. Liu Jin and Prof. Zuo Yunxia, the Anesthesiology Department of West China Hospital has ranked first among China's anesthesiology departments for 9 consecutive years in Fudan's Professional Department Reputation Rankings. Notice on the Issuance of the Opinions on Strengthening and Improving Anesthesia Medical Services (GWYF {2018} No. 21) points out that, anesthesiology is an important part of clinical medicine, and anesthesiology department is an important clinical department that reflects the comprehensive capabilities of a medical institution; on account of a critical shortage of talents in anesthesia in China, the development of anesthesia is a major national demand.

The combination of vivid and humorous language with easily understandable cases fills the internal training with a serious and lively atmosphere

In the end, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan summed up this sharing. She said that the sharing of Prof. Zuo Yunxia is really brilliant and we have benefited a lot; thanks to the sharing of Prof. Zuo today, we learn what a real anesthesiology department is like and what a real anesthesiologist is doing; we are very grateful to Prof. Zuo for her sharing, and hope that there will be more such opportunities for learning and communication, and our Association will be able to disseminate more knowledge and experiences to the people, and to the grassroots in the future.
