Liu Yi, Attending Physician of the Rheumatology and Immunology Department of WCH Sichuan University
In accordance with the timeline of medical history, Liu Yi combed the thousand-year history of human’s struggles against gout. In the 5th century B.C., Hippocrates recorded the clinical manifestations of gout and depicted the pain like someone stepping on a cactus. Illness comes like a tidal wave, but leaves like molasses in January. So, it is called gout, literally as if being blown by a gale. In ancient times, gout was more likely to affect emperors, generals and ministers and it was also called king’s disease. Today, as our living standards are being enhanced, the prevalence of gout or hyperuricemia (HUA) increases year by year.
After telling the story of "gout", doctor Liu imparted its medical knowledge from the perspective of gout pathology and informed different clinical manifestations of gout at different stages. In terms of diet, she cautioned against eating too much high purine food.
In the Q&A session, doctor Liu patiently answered many patients’ questions about their illnesses.
