On April 16th, the Secretariat of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) invited Prof. Chen Longqi, Director of Thoracic Surgery Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University and Executive Vice President of SCIMEA, to give the staff of the Secretariat a lecture, titled "Comparison between Chinese and World-Class Medical Systems, and Brief Introduction about Going abroad for Medical Treatment".
Vice President Chen Longqi first introduced the domestic medical system. He said, China's medical level is not at the top of the world yet, but the quality of Chinese medical treatment has been improved significantly in recent years; especially in terms of the treatment of vaccine-preventable diseases (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, etc.), maternal health problems, and emergent cases related to digestive system (appendicitis and hernia), China's medical circle is doing quite well.
All these achievements are due to the country's increased investment in the medical industry, the steady growth in the number of registered medical personnel, and the openness and transparency of the system.
With respect to the difference and distance with advanced foreign medical systems, Vice President Chen Longqi also mentioned that the Chinese and foreign medical systems are different in nature, so it's inappropriate to make rush judgment; such differences are mainly reflected in life values and mindsets, as well as in medical systems, medical equipment, technologies, and research level. Even faced with a same disease, Chinese and foreign patients think differently and respond differently; the problems faced by Chinese medical care service need to be considered from the perspective of the people's needs, and in accordance with China's national conditions, he said.
Subsequently, Vice President Chen introduced the medical systems of the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom with world-class medical level, and made detailed comparisons and interpretations on the features, advantages, and disadvantages of these systems.
Thanks to Vice President Chen's humorous language and easy-to-understand examples, the colleagues present have an intuitive understanding of the differences between Chinese and foreign medical systems, benefiting a lot.
