On November 1st, the Expansion Meeting of the Orthopedics Special Committee of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SCIMEA) was held in Chengdu. Pei Fuxing, a tenured Professor of West China Hospital, former director of orthopedics, and chairman of the Orthopedics Special Committee of SCIMEA, Ms. Zhang Mengfan, secretary-general of SCIMEA and other members of the Special Committee attended the meeting together.
At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Pei Fuxing gave a speech in regard to the purpose of holding this meeting. Professor Pei Fuxing mentioned that the tasks relating to orthopedic recovery would be carried out cooperatively by Beijing Public Welfare Foundation, Sichuan Accelerated Recovery Alliance, and SCMIEA. Additionally, the Fifth National Academic Exchange Conference for Orthopedic Accelerated Recovery will be held on from February 14 to 16, 2020, providing communication and cooperation opportunities for more doctors. He showed expectation for more theses to be submitted and contributed from all experts in the field.
Regarding next year’s working plan, Professor Pei Fuxing said that to carry out the work of Accelerating Recovery can reduce the morbidity and mortality of many diseases which is of great importance and has received great support from national government. The Special Committee would popularize the concept of Accelerated Recovery in Sichuan Province on district basis with the tripartite help of the Foundation, the Accelerated Recovery Alliance, and SCIMEA. Doctors from the grass-roots hospitals would be sent onto a regular 1-3 days’ visit and study at West China Hospital to enhance communications between hospitals with wisdom and strength integration to promote Accelerated Recovery and medical development.
Subsequently, Secretary-General Zhang Mengfan made a detailed introduction of SCIMEA’s overall status and reported on the work ideas of the Orthopedic Professional Commission and the Accelerated Recovery Alliance. The secretary-general stated that the Orthopedics Committee was the first Special Committee and she extended thanks to all the experts for their support and trust for SCIMEA. The development path of SCIMEA is "basing on comprehensive platforms, serving members as the core, operating in an enterprise manner, and featuring in differentiated projects". At this stage, SCIMEA's main work is to facilitate academic exchanges and training, establish High-end English journals, hold biomedical summit forums and exhibitions, popularize health science, promote the transformation of medical achievements, and assist local governments with investments introduction.
The secretary-general mentioned that the academic exchanges and training was virtually depending on the support of the Special Committee. To carry out the preliminary training jointly carried out by Orthopedics Special Committee and Accelerated Recovery Alliance, to organize trainings at West China Hospital for doctors from grass-roots hospitals, and to cooperate with enterprises to hold trainings on Accelerated Recovery, are all the goals of SCIMEA. SCIMEA will also facilitate the trainings abroad and invite foreign experts to come to China for communication with focus on health promotion along the “Belt and Road” countries. SCIMEA would hold summit forums hopingly by accurately designing the conference contents through the form of "meeting and exhibition" and to promote academic exchanges as well as better reflecting doctors’ work experience and value through on-site teaching, operating room videos and workshops.
The secretary-general introduced that on November 10th, the "2019 China-Japan Advanced Medical and New Drug R & D Summit Forum & Achievement Transformation Conference", co-organized by Japan Kobe Translational Research Center for Medical Innovation (TRI) and SCIMEA, will be held in Shangri-La Hotel Chengdu. Next year, SCMIEA will launch a "Healthy ‘Star’ Strength Science Popularization" and a Science Popularization Committee will be established by then. Meanwhile, through the interconnection with media platforms such as Tencent, Douyin(TikTok) and Weibo, a large-scale online health science popularization would be created to promote cooperation in various fields. In addition, all-round cooperation with Chengdu Tianfu New Area, Wenjiang District, and Meishan City will be carried out to integrate "government, industry, universities, and research institutions" to realize benefits for all participating parties.
The secretary-general concluded that SCIMEA had been striving to seek for differentiated services to better meet the needs of members and efforts should be made to create a medical home with positive attitude and warmth and to redefine the concept of the Association. To expand the scope of members by holding expansion meeting can bring in more collaboration with experts dedicated to Accelerated Recovery and international medical communication and jointly promote the development of the Special Committee and medical exchanges and cooperation. Finally, the secretary-general also warmed up for the annual meeting on December 14.
