In view of the diversified activities and rich contents of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan requires every member of the Secretariat to become a qualified emcee good at multiple skills while specializing in one. On May 23, 2019, we invited Su Linkun, hostess of Chengdu TV Station, to the Secretariat to give us the first session of hosting skills training.
During the training, Ms. Su Linkun indicated that the most important basic skill of an emcee is pronunciation and breath. Because of the features of southern dialects, we do not open our mouths as wide as the northerners, and employ less muscle inside the mouth than they do. These shortcomings can be overcome through basic training such as grinning, springing tongue, jabbering, pressing tongue (against palate), spitting bubble, and opening mouth wide, so as to enhance the capacity of our facial and oral muscles, improve the accuracy of our pronunciation, and equip ourselves with a brisk and flexible pronunciation style.
Subsequently, Ms. Su asked us to train ourselves with abdominal breathing method, which can not only improve cardio-pulmonary function, but allow more oxygen to enter the pubic region, and make our sound louder, clearer and broader. Then all the participants pronounced "Hey, huh" to train breathing.
In conclusion, Ms. Su personally demonstrated how an emcee should enter and exit an arena, as well as how to hold a microphone and maintain good standing postures, and left a tongue-twister assignment to us. The buddies of the Secretariat learnt a lot from this class, looking forward to the next hosting skill training.
