Exploration III: Meeting WCH, Meeting a Better Self

On July 17, the “Huaxi-Hawson Summer Camp”, a journey co-organized by the ICU Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University (WCH) and the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) with more than 20 students from all over the country in attendance, came to a full stop.


The rich history of WCH, the charm of severe case diagnosis and treatment, and the scene of fight against death have given students a deep impression.

 

Career: Why Do I Choose to be an ICU Doctor?


"It makes you feel life is a very magical thing."


As an ICU doctor, the most gratifying and most fulfilling moment is to rescue the dying.

Zou Tongjuan and Ji Peng share the bits and pieces and gains during the internship at West China Hospital, and how they have grown from a resident doctor to a qualified and outstanding ICU doctor, enabling the students to understand the developing course of an ICU staff.

Dream: Dreams Make Miracles


‘A Taiwanese is still alive 16 days after his heart was removed!’ ECMO's role is indispensable. For ICU doctors, saving patients in critical condition is a skill requiring long-time practice.

What is your aspiration? What is a good doctor? Come listen to what the students say. 

 

Responsibility: ‘Fighting for Survival under the Orders of Distress’

 

Saving patients in critical condition is a faculty of ICU doctors that requires lots of practice.

 

Doctors would feel gratified and happy whenever seeing patients confident in keeping fight with diseases because of encourage and care after being out of danger thanks to emergency rescue.

 

For three days, the students have been in close contact with the ICU, followed the pace of their mentors, and experienced the mystery of pressing ICU teamwork.

What is the significance of the summer camp? Preaching and teaching to plant the seeds of hope, to fulfill missions and responsibilities, and to have “both a benevolent mind and heart”.


ICU is the place where dreams begin. The students, with the seeds of hope, will definitely live their dreams through hard working.
