The 2019 West China International Myopia Control and Eye Care Symposium, organized by SCIMEA, was held in the International Conference Center in Century City on March 2, 2019. Professor Wei Yuquan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of the SCIMEA, read out the “Approval on Establishing the Ocular Eye Care Committee of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association” at the opening ceremony, and presented the Letter of Appointment to Professor Liu Longqian (chairman of the OECC), Professor Kang Fengqiang and Professor Zou Yunchun (vice chairmen of the OECC). 

The OECC of the SCIMEA held its first general meeting in the evening of March 1.

Zhang Mengfan (SCIMEA Secretary-General), Liu Longqian (Director of Optometry Department, West China Hospital of Sichuan University), Zhong Jie (Deputy Director of Ophthalmology Department, Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital), Zhang Meixia (Chief Physician of Ophthalmology Department, Huaxi Hospital), Zou Yunchun (Director of Optometry Department, Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College), Kang Fengqiang (BOD Chairman of Meishikang Visual Health Management Co., Ltd.), as well as a number of experts and the OECC members who have great influence in the field of ocular eye care in Sichuan Province attended the meeting.

Professor Liu Longqian first reported the work did by the preparatory team, and summarized the current status of the industry to which the OECC belongs. The development of ocular eye care differs a lot in China and abroad. Although it has developped for more than 100 years in China, there is still a huge gap between that in China and other countries. Blindness and visual impairment have become important challenges to the society and the public health. Eye health is an important issue to the health of all people. Therefore, it is even more necessary for the experts present here to set up an excellent team in order to provide corresponding standards and services. At the same time, Professor Liu Longqian hopes to discuss and communicate more with international experts with the help of the SCIMEA, so as to achieve an overall improvement in Sichuan's ocular eye care & health.

Subsequently, Zhang Mengfan, SCIMEA Secretary-General, presided over the election of the OECC leaders in accordance with the Constitution of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association,  including the chairman and the deputy chairman.

The Secretary-General congratulated the newly elected chairman and deputy chairman, and said that the SCIMEA, as a comprehensive platform for international medical communication, will be devoted to building a platform that integrates production, learning and research. It  will center its work in serving members and member enterprises and strive to create values for experts, hospitals and enterprises.

Professor Lv Fan, Chairman of the Visual Health Branch of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Health Care and Secretary of the Party Committee of Wenzhou Medical University, was invited to attend this meeting and delivered a speech to congratulate the establishment of the OECC of the SCIMEA.
