On June 21, 2019, the inaugural meeting of the Breast Tumor Professional Committee of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) was held in Chengdu.
This meeting was attended by Jing Jing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Sichuan University, Director of West China Center of Medical Science, and Director of Breast Disease Clinical Research Center, West China Hospital, Chen Longqi, Executive Vice President of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, and Director of Thoracic Surgery, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, Zheng Hong, Deputy Director of Breast Disease Clinical Research Center and Director of Cancer Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, West China Hospital, and 130+ specialists in breast tumor and related fields in Sichuan.
Prof. Jing Jing, as the initiator of the Breast Tumor Professional Committee, delivered the first speech. He indicated that when the China's medical science is entering the central circle of the world's medical science, it is in dire need of closer and more frequent international exchanges and cooperation; this is the need of the country and the need of medical development as well; the establishment of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association is in line with the development needs of the times and the development pace of the industry; under the leadership of Academician Wei Yuquan, the Association is bound to make remarkable achievements. Prof. Jing Jing raised three expectations for the Breast Tumor Professional Committee of the Association: to turn work into a thing sustainable and valuable, into a thing truly innovative, and into a thing influential.
Later, Associate Professor Zhong Xiaorong of West China Hospital, also a member of the preparatory group of the Committee, made a preparatory work report on behalf of the preparatory group. She first explained the necessity to establish such a committee: Due to the disconnection between clinical application and scientific research, and the lack of effective communication and cooperation between different medical institutions and research institutes, the problems discovered in clinical applications cannot be solved, and the results produced in laboratories cannot be effectively promoted. That's why the Breast Tumor Professional Committee is founded. She reported that, after half a year of preparatory work, the Professional Committee has absorbed 148 doctors from 64 hospitals in 19 administrative divisions of Sichuan Province; among them, clinicians accounted for 83%, and non-clinical doctors accounted for 17%, including experts in different disciplines like pathology, ultrasound imaging, imaging, and nursing, as well as from full-time research teams.
Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, presided over the election of this Professional Committee, during which all the participants voted for the Director, Deputy Directors, standing members and other leaders of the Committee.
According to the voting results, Zheng Hong is elected as the Director, 12 experts, including Shi Hubing, Liu Jinbing, Li Hui, and Luo Ting, were elected as Deputy Directors of the Breast Tumor Professional Committee of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association.
Chen Longqi, Executive Vice President of the Association, read out the "Reply on the Approval of the Establishment of the Breast Tumor Professional Committee[U4] of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association", and then, together with Secretary General Zhang Mengfan, issued the letters of appointment to the newly elected Director and Deputy Directors.
On behalf of the newly elected leaders of the Committee, Prof. Shi Hubing from West China Hospital of Sichuan University made a statement. He mentioned that, in order to explore ways to reduce the incidence of breast cancer and improve post-surgery recovery, the Committee has set the following primary target: Through establishing a mechanism for personal exchanges and resource sharing between domestic and foreign high-level medical institutions, integrate the advantageous resources of a number of hospitals and research institutes, and jointly build an internationalized high-end and high-level cooperation platform for clinical trials & applications and translational medical research, to promote the full-range and all-dimensional management of breast tumors.
In the end, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan briefed the conference about the situation and work ideas of the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association. She declared that the SCIMEA is an association that is based on a comprehensive platform, centering on the service for members, focusing on enterprise-style management, featuring differentiated projects, and targeting at promoting the development of the whole field; it is committed to building an integrated platform for government departments, related industries, education institutions, and research institutes, and serving as medical personnel's home with attitude and warmth.
