On June 9th, 2019, at the invitation of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, Prof. Wu Kangmin from the Department of Pediatrics of the West China Second Hospital, Sichuan University, delivered her first lecture of "Famous Doctors' Lecture Hall" in Winshare Books, and cleared the audients' doubts about nutrition and feeding for early infants.
Prof. Wu indicated that as the best food for babies 0-6 months old, breast milk contains lactose, protein, fat, zinc, linolenic acid, lutein, taurine, choline, DHA, AA and other nutrients conducive to babies' growth.
Furthermore, breast milk contains vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc and other antioxidant nutrients, as well as various immune factors such as nucleotide, lactoferrin, immunoglobulin, prebiotic GOS, immune cell, and antioxidant factor, which can help babies improve their immunity.
In a view to ensure the high quality of breast milk, Prof. Wu offered the young mothers present several suggestions: to appropriately increase the intake of protein (fish, eggs, poultry, and lean meat, among others); to appropriately drink more milk; to appropriately increase the intake of water; to eat diverse food but within a rational amount during puerperium; to work out in a scientific manner to restore healthy weight.
In addition, she also talked about the adverse consequences that will be caused by nutritional imbalance during early infancy. In the short term, such a nutritional imbalance will affect the growth of height and weight; while in the long run, it may cause cardiovascular disease and inhibit the intellectual development of babies; during the growth cycle of a baby, all-around attention must be paid to the intake of balanced nutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins A/D, calcium, iron, and zinc, etc.).
In the interactive session of the lecture, the participating mums of early infants raised their own feeding-related questions, all of which were responded by Prof. Wu with patient and meticulous answers. At the end of the event, some of the attendees and field staff took pictures with Profs Wu. And then the lecture was concluded amid a pleasant atmosphere.
