At the beginning, with the theme of “Courage”, Nurse Xu Jing told the story of a patient who deeply impressed her during the anti-epidemic. Faced with a vicious virus, it is normal for people to feel nervous and fearful, but Nurse Xu Jing did not draw back. Instead, she bravely submitted an application to combat the epidemic on the frontline. She said: Courage does not mean fearlessness, but facing the challenge despite fear. In communication with patients, courage means to bravely choose persistence even if they suffer great pain. At this moment, for me, courage is a kind of transformation, a maturity after experiencing fear, worry and pain.
With the theme of "Responsibility", Dr. Wang Bo shared his experience of staying in the Public Health Clinical Center of Chengdu where he treated COVID-19 patients. He said: Doctors must have a professional ethnic of love, care, duty, and responsibility. Whether they are treating COVID-19 patients or ordinary patients, they must carefully observe the characteristics of the patients, refer to experience and monitoring data, fully consider the safety during the treatment, and carefully treat the patient.
Dr. Zhou Yan elaborated the word "Professional" in his speech. During the COVID-19 epidemic, the professionals devoted to the frontline included doctors, nurses, police, and firefighters. Different professionals played different roles. Dr. Zhou Yan shared the professional characteristics of ICU in terms of beds, monitors, and personnel allocation in ICU. He said that no matter what occupation you choose, you will experience aggravation or frustration in society, but you should always bear your mission in mind and never give up.
Nurse Yao Ni shared her theme “Optimism” using the example of “Miss Lin” who left her with a deep impression during the anti-epidemic war. “Miss Lin” started with anxiety and hopelessness, but with the nurse’s care and courage, she gradually built confidence until she finally recovered and was discharged. She said: In taking care of Miss Lin, I realized a truth. Emotions can either help up or beat down a person. Optimism is the most positive attitude to overcome all difficulties.
Dr. Peng Yong told his special experience serving as a "residential doctor" under the theme of "Dream". A "residential doctor" stays on duty on the frontline of the clinic 24 hours a day, including ward rounds, surgery, teaching, and emergency treatment upon patients' critical situations, and responds to emergency consultations any time necessary. These years of dealing with different circumstances has helped his quick growth as a doctor. Dr. Peng Yong's dream was to become a qualified doctor. He said: When dealing with volunteers in Wuhan, I saw they stood on the frontline in spite of infection risks. With medical workers from all over the country thronging into Wuhan to help, they saw hope and light. A little bit of light from here and there gathered together and illuminated the whole world. I also encouraged myself to be a source of light who does not give up hope, but bring hope to others.
Afterwards, the student representative read the letter of thanks and presented a bouquet and a mascot called Yibao to express their gratitude and respect to the anti-epidemic heroes who had fought on the frontline.
