At this critical time for the nation to fight against SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, Wang Dun, a student from West China Hospital (eight-year program) was invited by the Sichuan Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) to compose a song entitled Heroes In White. SCIMEA also produced a MV to cheer and encourage all the people in the country, especially the medical workers in the front line.

"At the most important moment of the epidemic combat, I wanted to write a song that represents all the medical students at Sichuan University from the perspective of a medical student, and express our heartfelt gratitude and respect to all medical seniors and frontline medical staff," says Wang Dun, the composer, as regards his inspiration of the song composition.

Weak and sick when I was a kid, I often went to the hospital to see people in white coat

My mother would tell me I can stop worrying, even if it is serious

They are angels who will save our lives

Out of paranoia or childhood dreams, I don’t know

But I imagined I would make it happen when no one is afraid of getting sick

I've been studying hard at all times

Simply with the goal to fulfill the dream rooted in my heart

I comfort myself from time to time

It’s about reward over time, not about lottery

The day finally comes

When I found

Over these years

Every effort I had made

Helped the blooming of the seeds I had planted

Some people once asked why I chose this path

Maybe it was the instruction of the angel, or the mission entrusted to me by the white coat

Never considering myself anyone great

I just want to have angel wings to protect you, and tell you, “Don’t be afraid”

Don’t leave home at this moment, for the wind is too strong

Why are you so far away from home

Angles in white

Heroes in white

Don’t leave home at this moment, for the wind is too strong

Why are you so far away from home

Angles in white

Heroes in white

The 2020 Chinese New Year is shadowed by unexpected fears

When warm wishes and every kiss is blocked by N95 masks

No one dares to leave home

Everyone is scared, except these angels

Whose children, whose parents and whose family are you

Farewell to parents at the banquet of New Year's Eve

Don't worry. I will be back home soon

Tell your girl you are sorry for not staying with her

cause more people need your protection

You strode out like soldiers with guns

And arrived at the silent frontier

To heal this land of wounds

Thank you for bringing light to the darkness

I’m sorry for my incapability at this moment

But hope one day I can be as qualified as you

No more fear and sickness with your presence

Dawn is waiting for us after the long night

You are my example to guide me forward

No sentimental expressions, but with a simple hope that you will return in triumph and safety

Don’t leave home at this moment, for the wind is too strong

Why are you so far away from home

Angles in white

Heroes in white

Don’t leave home at this moment, for the wind is too strong

Why are you so far away from home

Angles in white

Heroes in white

When you stride out, who will guard your back

The aroma scattered on earth cannot hide the odor of the ugly heart

Have you ever regretted

Or frowned when watching prickling news

But well aware of lives entrusted in your hands and mission put on your shoulders, you can’t retreat

Sincere hearts are hurt again and again

And vows gradually become in vain

Open your arms to all beings

The heart of innocence will always be there

Love can't serve as an armor, but rather, it even costs

Love will be penetrated by a sharp blade, and arms are wet with tears

I can cure the disease, but who can cure my heart?

I am abandoned by the mass while defending them

Fighting alone on the highlands

I shut my mouth out of resentment

Otherwise there would have been deafening outcry

Fortunately you're here

And people like you in the future.

Don’t leave home at this moment, for the wind is too strong

Why are you so far away from home

Angles in white

Heroes in white

Don’t leave home at this moment, for the wind is too strong

Why are you so far away from home

Angles in white

Heroes in white

In 2020, the SARS-CoV-2 broke out in Wuhan, China. The rampant epidemic shadows the whole country, and many people are stuck at home suffering from fear and worries about death from the epidemic. Facing a war without gunpowder, a high-risk war against unknown new viruses to compete for time and life, groups of "white soldiers" have become the main force of this war. Facing a high risk of infection and lack of medical supplies, they rushed to the battlefield frontline at Spring Festival, a time for family reunion.

On February 9th, according to the press conference held by the State Council's joint prevention and control mechanism against SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, since the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, the National Health Commission has dispatched a total of 11,921 medical personnel from across the country to assist Hubei.

One region's plight arouses the attention and support from all over the country. Medical teams across the country went to the "battlefield" without any hesitation, and the "Sichuan Army" also quickly responded to the call by gathering many times to assist Wuhan in the battlefield. As of February 11th, 2020, Sichuan Province has sent six batches of medical aid teams to Wuhan, and a total of 919 people have engaged themselves in the front line of the epidemic.

The chilly winter will finally be gone,

The bright sun will eventually illuminate the land.

You’re fighting a great fight, angels in white!

We wish you a safe return in triumph!
