In order to win the battle against COVID-19 epidemic during the special Spring Festival, Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) immediately devoted itself to the battle against the epidemic, harnessing the power of science and technology to fulfill its social responsibility and mission.

On February 11th, SCIMEA, together with jiankang.cctv.com, the exclusively authorized platform of National Health Commission, and sctv.com launched a series of live stream program of "Experts Opinions on Epidemic Combat". Professor Song Bin, Director of Imaging Centre and Radiology Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Chairman of the Imaging Committee of SCIMEA, was invited for the first program. The live stream was shot in the studio at West China Hospital and broadcasted on platforms of sctv.com, kuaishou.com, weibo.com, toutiao.com, ixigua.com, v.qq.com, news.qq.com, ifeng.com and youku.com. Professor Song Bin explained the epidemic-related knowledge for medical practitioners and the general public, and answered online questions about COVID-19. The live stream program was viewed over two million times.

Professor Song Bin, as an authoritative expert in the field of imaging, shared the topic of "The Value of Imaging Inspection in the Fight Against COVID-19 Epidemic", interpreted the key role that imaging plays in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic. He explained the COVID-19 in detail in terms of pathogenic mechanism, epidemiological characteristics, clinical manifestations, and laboratory examination. In response to the common concern about how to distinguish between COVID-19 and common influenza, Professor Song Bin mentioned that it is difficult to accurately distinguish by clinical symptoms and CT images alone, and therefore a comprehensive evaluation of epidemiological history, etiological detection, and various clinical symptoms must be used for diagnosis. He also explained the diagnostic criteria of suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19, and advocated to make right recommendations for clinical diagnosis and treatment based on the principle of "case by case analysis".

At present, there is no specific medicine for COVID-19, which makes imaging significant in the diagnosis and treatment. Professor Song Bin specifically introduced the imaging examination, performance and staging with clinical examples. He pointed out that chest imaging is a key technique for detecting abnormal changes in the lungs and an important early warning signal for infected persons. Professor Song Bin also made an in-depth analysis of the lung changes in patients with COVID-19 in the early, advanced, severe and dissipative stages.

In the live stream program, Professor Song Bin answered hot topics online such as "Whether there is any sequelae after recovery from COVID-19 ", "The effect of autoimmunity on COVID-19", "How to prevent the aerosol transmission of COVID-19". He reminded the audience that we must pay attention to self-protection to wear face masks and wash hands frequently. At present, most cases are mild and curable after symptomatic treatment. In particular, fine treatment for critically ill patients has greatly reduced the mortality rate and improve the cure rate.

In the end, Professor Song Bin presented his opinions on the topics of "The relationship between CT imaging performance and clinical severity & prognosis of patients", "Application of CT low-dose scanning technology in the examination of COVID-19" and "Application of AI in the rapid and accurate early diagnosis of COVID-19" and exchanged views with peers in imaging. He hoped that imaging technology can play a greater role in the clinical research of COVID-19.

In order to help the public to understand the methods of epidemic protection, SCIMEA fully integrated its medical resources to communicate with the global top medical experts and share the diagnostic standards. To eliminate the information barriers and strengthen the science popularization, SCIMEA actively combined the advantages of the Internet, using the innovative "live stream" to call for a national war against the epidemic, allowing effective information to be widely accessible to the general public.

As a warm-hearted institution, SCIMEA has undertaken its due social responsibility to fight the epidemic. Later on, it will invite more authoritative experts to the live stream program talking about the epidemic protection knowledge and real time hot spot topics of COVID-19. Wait for more to come.
