Guangdong Critical Care Team Visit to West China Hospital to Conduct "Dialogue on ICU – Trip to West China Hospital" Exchange Visit

On September 26, the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) Critical Care Committee’s “Dialogue on ICU – Trip to West China Hospital” Exchange Visit was kicked off in the of Critical Care Department of West China Hospital. SCIMEA Critical Care Committee invited 20 experts from 15 hospitals in Guangdong Province who have made outstanding achievements in critical care academics to West China Hospital to participate in this high-end mutual visit. They exchanged discussions with the medical and technical team of Critical Care Department of West China Hospital on the construction and management of critical care disciplines, departmental operation and team training, basic clinical theory and operation, scientific research, and future development.

“Dialogue on ICU” is a national high-level industry dialogue and communication platform constructed under the initiation of Kang Yan, director of Critical Care Department. It was designed where the visiting team would experience the daily work of the ICU of West China Hospital. The visiting team participated in the ward shift transition, departmental regular meeting, image interpretation and ward round.

In the morning, after the experts and professors in the ICU demonstration room announced attentions and discussed the difficult medical cases, the visitors were divided into four groups to follow the four medical groups of Critical Care Center for morning shifts transition and routine ward rounds. During the rounds, experts and medical team leaders exchanged ideas out of their interest. 

Then, Professor Kang Yan, director of Critical Care Department of West China Hospital, introduced Critical Care Department of West China Hospital regarding its discipline organization structure, personnel cultivation and concept. After more than 20 years of development, West China Hospital’s Critical Care Department has developed into a new department with multi-hospital, multi-department and multidisciplinary collaboration. Later, the visiting expert group also introduced their respective hospitals, showed their respective characteristics and advantages.

The academic exchange in the afternoon was divided into four parts. It started with “simulated teaching observation”, where experts experienced the rigorous teaching at the Critical Care Department.

It was followed by the presentation of Professor Xie Xiaoqi who, themed on “multi-dimensional wide-coverage whole-process education system”, he gave a full display of the teaching management mode of the Critical Care Department regarding ICU teaching management structure, teaching application and training methods.

Upon the conclusion of themed events, the experts participated in free question & answer and discussions based on their interest.

In this "Dialogue on ICU – Trip to West China " exchange visit, the expert delegation showed their enthusiasm and sense of accomplishment, which not only gave them a deeper understanding of the Critical Care Department of West China Hospital, but also greatly promoted the deepened communication and exchange of the ICUs of major hospitals. It provided a platform where the experts learned from each other, shared their experience, and made improvement together, and therefore it was fully affirmed and supported.
