On February 28, 2019, the inaugural meeting of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA hereafter) Critical Care Medicine Specialized Committee was held in Jinjiang Hotel.
The meeting was attended by several initiators of Critical Care Medicine Specialized Committee, including Liu Jin, Vice President of SCIMEA, Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of SCIMEA, Kang Yan, Head of ICU of West China Hospital, Jin Xiaodong, Secretary of the Party committee at ICU of West China Hospital, Huang Xiaobo, Head of ICU of Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhou Yan, Head of ICU of West China Hospital Shangjin Branch, and Zhang Chuan, Head of ICU of Chengdu No.3 People's Hospital, as well as many influential experts in critical care medicine and representatives from enterprise members of the specialized committee.
Prof. Kang Yan, one of the initiators of the specialized committee and Head of ICU of West China Hospital, presented a report on preparations for the founding of the committee.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Kang Yan, one of the initiators of the specialized committee and Head of ICU of West China Hospital, made a report on the work of the preparatory group. Prof. Kang reviewed the development of critical care medicine, analyzed its current status and prospects for the development trends, so as to explain the urgency, importance and significance of the establishment of this specialized committee.
Prof. Kang Yan said that the sustainable development of Critical Care Medicine Specialized Committee should adhere to the "Three Musts" Principle. That is to say, first, we must build and develop a platform for the discipline of critical care medicine by further strengthening scientific and standardized construction as well as professional and unified management. Second, we must strike a good balance between clinical work and scientific research, because both are indispensable and reinforce each other. Finally, we must carry out our work by utilizing Internet and information technology.
Prof. Kang also mentioned that since the development of critical care medicine in China started quite late, we should further strengthen the discipline construction due to imbalanced development among regions and different levels of talents. We also should rapidly improve the informatization construction for critical care medicine in that there still exists many "isolated information islands", which refers to computer application systems disconnected from each other. So it is a common task for all the colleagues present at the meeting to think about how to reasonably apply Internet and information technology in our work. In response to the call of the Party, we should establish a discipline construction platform by using information technology as the platform will be an important foundation that the development of China Society of Critical Care Medicine can rely on. Therefore, the founding of SCIMEA Critical Care Medicine Specialized Committee is bound to promote the overall development of critical care medicine in Sichuan Province and make a contribution to the development of critical care medicine in China.
Subsequently, all the participants voted for leaders of the specialized committee, including the chairperson, the vice chairperson, standing committee members, as well as the chairperson and vice chairperson of the youth committee.
