On May 18, 2019, the inaugural meeting of the Oncology Multidisciplinary Therapy (MDT) Professional Committee of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association was held in Chengdu.

        The meeting was attended by Liu Lunxu, Vice President of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, Wang Yongsheng, founder of the MDT Professional Committee, and Director of GCP Center of West China Hospital, as well as 200+ experts in oncology in Sichuan.

        Vice President Liu Lunxu delivered the first address. He mentioned that since the establishment of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, under the leadership of Academician Wei Yuquan, it has developed rapidly, done a lot in international medical exchanges and discipline construction, and achieved gratifying results. He then expressed congratulations on the founding of its MDT Professional Committee. Vice President Liu said that in the present medical field, cancer treatment is a key domain, whose situation remains grim despite some progress made; the cancer treatment methods are still relatively simple, so multidisciplinary treatment is quite necessary, that is, only through multidisciplinary integration can completely conquering cancer become possible. He hopes that the Professional Committee will promote the exchanges and cooperation between all the disciplines involved, and facilitate the development of oncology.

        Subsequently, Associate Professor Zhang Yan of West China Hospital made a preparatory report on behalf of the preparatory team. He said that the treatment history of a single treatment method has gradually been ended, and a comprehensive treatment model combining multiple treatment methods has been increasingly treasured; according to reports, the survival prognosis of patients after MDT-directed treatment is significantly higher than that of patients without comprehensive guided therapy, so the MDT treatment model is an irresistible trend; in this situation, the province's professionals in oncology, surgery, thoracic surgery, radiotherapy, and pathology are gathering right here, and the oncology MDT professional committee is born at the right time. 

        Liu Xilu, head of the Project Cooperation and Member Service Division of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, presided over the election of this professional committee

        All the participants casted their ballots to select director, deputy director, and standing members of the professional committee. 

        Wang Yongsheng, the newly elected Director of the committee and Director of the GCP Center of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, addressed the meeting on behalf of the MDT Professional Committee. In his address, Wang recalled that when he was studying in the UK, after the UK launched MDT, the OS (overall survival) of the UK patients increased a lot and reached the forefront of Europe; the current cancer treatment is different from the previous changeless chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery; for doctors, there are many new challenges. Director Wang added, after the establishment of the MDT Professional Committee, more new neoplastic concepts and knowledge can be exchanged through this platform; and more importantly, it is hoped that through this platform, everyone can work together and turn into research-oriented clinicians, and promote the development of the Association, and the development of MDT in China. 

        Finally, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan briefed the meeting about the situation and working ideas of the Association. She stated that the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association will serve as an achievements transformation platform integrating the links of production, teaching, research and application, with a view to promoting the development and advancement of medical science; at present, it is in the process of preparing for the establishment of academic journals and public welfare foundation; Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association has been committed to being a home of medical workers, which has attitudes and warmth, striving to offer featured and differentiated services, creating brand projects, and building an international exchange platform for experts, hospitals, and enterprises to promote integrated development of industry, education and research.
